Why National Tea Day is Better in Devon

There is an old saying that you can’t buy happiness, but you can over-steep a tea bag – and that’s pretty close! Today, we are joining the rest of the nation to celebrate National Tea Day. While the whole of the UK is busy putting the kettle on, here at Langage Farm, we believe that a cup of tea is only as good as the company it keeps.

Living and working on a farm with decades of history gives you a bit of perspective on tradition. We’ve seen a lot of changes in the Devonshire countryside, but one thing remains constant: the British love affair with tea.

National Tea Day isn’t just about the builder’s brew (though we love those too!). It’s a day to celebrate all tea. From the high-end loose-leaf blends served in the finest hotels to a thermos shared on a brisk walk across Dartmoor, tea brings us together.

The Secret Ingredient: Our Jersey & Guernsey Girls

If you’re going to do tea properly, you need a treat to match. At Langage Farm, we produce our world-class Devonshire Clotted Cream using the richest, creamiest milk from our very own Channel Island cows.

Our creamery is right here on the farm, where our local team crafts our award-winning products by hand. When you see that golden crust on a pot of Langage clotted cream, you’re looking at the best of Devon.

The Great Debate: Cream First!

We couldn’t talk about National Tea Day without addressing the elephant in the room (or the scone on the plate). Since the 11th century—specifically starting with the monks in Tavistock—the Cream Tea has been a staple of Devon life.

As a proud Devon business, we have a very strict rule: It is always Cream First. 1. The Scone: Warm, fluffy, and freshly baked. 2. The Langage Clotted Cream: A generous, thick dollop to act as the perfect foundation. 3. The Jam: Delicately placed on top.

Anything else? Well, let’s just say it isn’t the Devon way!

Happy Tea Day!
