Clotted Cream & Chive Dip

Creamy, savoury and utterly moreish — the most luxurious dip you’ll ever bring to a picnic!

Serves: 4
Prep time: 10 minutes | Chill time: 30 minutes**

You’ll need:

  • 1 tub of Langage Farm Devonshire Clotted Cream
  • 1 tbsp good quality mayonnaise
  • 1 small garlic clove, very finely grated
  • 3 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • A little extra chive to garnish

To serve:

  • Crudités — carrots, cucumber, celery, radishes and peppers all work beautifully
  • Good quality crisps or crackers
  • Crusty bread torn into chunks

Method:

  1. Spoon the Langage Farm Clotted Cream into a bowl and add the mayonnaise, grated garlic, Dijon mustard and lemon juice.
  2. Fold everything together gently until smooth and beautifully combined — that gorgeous golden clotted cream gives this dip an incredible richness that ordinary cream cheese simply cannot match.
  3. Stir through the chopped chives and season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Taste and adjust — a little more lemon juice, a little more mustard, until it’s just perfect.
  4. Spoon into a sealed jar or pot, scatter a few extra chives over the top, and chill for at least 30 minutes before packing. It firms up wonderfully and travels perfectly in a cool bag.
  5. At your picnic, set out your crudités, crisps and bread and let everyone dive in!

Variations:

  • Smoked Salmon & Dill — swap the chives for fresh dill and fold through 50g of flaked smoked salmon for a very elegant picnic dip indeed.
  • Sun-dried Tomato & Basil — stir through 3 finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes and a handful of fresh basil for a gorgeous Mediterranean twist.
  • Horseradish & Chive — add a teaspoon of hot horseradish sauce alongside the mustard for a wonderfully punchy dip that pairs beautifully with cold roast beef or crudités.
