As the Devon countryside bursts into bloom, spring has well and truly arrived here at Langage Farm — and with it comes a renewed sense of energy, growth, and purpose.
This is always one of our favourite times of year on the farm. The fields are alive with new life, and the longer days mean more time for our cows to enjoy the fresh pasture, which they absolutely love! It’s a wonderful reminder of why we care so deeply about nurturing our animals and our land the right way.
Warmer Springs, Happier Herds
Thanks to our location in the South West, Devon and Cornwall benefit from one of the mildest climates in the UK. Sheltered by the surrounding moorlands and warmed by the Gulf Stream, our region typically sees an earlier, warmer spring than many other parts of the country.
Our cows love this gentler climate, grazing on lush, nutrient-rich grass. It also extends the growing season, giving us more opportunity to cultivate feed crops and plant biodiversity-friendly hedgerows and wildflowers.
For us, farming in this corner of the country isn’t just beautiful — it’s practical. The warmer weather allows for a more natural rhythm to the seasons and supports our commitment to low-impact, regenerative farming practices.
Planting the Seeds of a Greener Future
Spring is also when we ramp up our environmental initiatives. Expanding our tree-planting programme across the farm, helping to improve local biodiversity, support pollinators, and enhance our natural carbon offset. Combined with the clean, renewable energy produced by our Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant, it’s all part of our ongoing mission to reduce our footprint and protect the planet.
We’re proud to be one of the UK’s carbon-neutral dairy farms, but we’re not stopping there. From reducing food waste to cutting down on single-use packaging, we’re exploring new ways every day to make our operations more sustainable.
Fresh Dairy, Straight from the Farm
While nature gets to work outside, we’re also hard at work inside – crafting our beloved clotted cream, luxury ice creams, and thick, creamy yoghurts using milk from our happy Devon cows. As always, we’re focused on delivering the taste you love, made the traditional way, with no shortcuts and no unnecessary additives.
And yes — our ice cream production is in full swing to keep up with rising springtime demand. Keep an eye out in local shops and farm shops for seasonal favourites!
Here’s to a joyful spring and a sustainable future.
