From 22nd to 28th September 2025, the UK celebrates Recycle Week, a national campaign encouraging everyone to embrace recycling and sustainable practices. It’s a time to highlight the incredible impact that small actions — from households to businesses — can have on the environment.
Now in its 26th year, Recycle Week is a chance to shine a spotlight on recycling, reduce waste, and inspire communities to protect the planet for future generations.
Why Recycling Matters
Recycling is about more than separating plastics from paper. It’s about conserving resources, reducing carbon emissions, and giving materials a new lease of life. Some inspiring facts from the UK include:
In 2024, 75% of packaging waste in the UK was recycled, showing the power of collective action.
Paper and cardboard remain the most recycled materials at over 86%, keeping forests and energy safe.
Last year’s Recycle Week was a huge success, with thousands of schools, businesses, and communities taking part. From educational activities in schools to local recycling challenges and awareness campaigns, the event demonstrated that small steps can create a big impact.
At Langage Farm, we’re proud to do our bit for the planet every day. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, from sourcing milk from our own herd to reducing waste in our operations.
Anaerobic Digestion Plant: The Ultimate Recycling
One of our most exciting sustainability projects is our Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant, which transforms food waste into energy. This innovative facility:
Processes up to 20,000 tonnes of food waste annually
Converts organic waste into biomethane, which generates electricity and heat for our dairy operations
Produces biofertiliser that nourishes our fields, creating a closed-loop system that feeds our Jersey herd sustainably
By turning waste into energy and fertiliser, our AD plant shows the true potential of recycling — transforming something that would otherwise be discarded into a valuable resource.
How You Can Make a Difference
Recycle Week is the perfect opportunity for individuals, schools, and businesses to reflect on how they manage waste. Simple steps like separating recyclables, reducing food waste, and supporting local recycling initiatives can make a real difference.
Here at Langage Farm, we encourage everyone to think creatively about recycling and sustainability — whether it’s composting at home, using reusable packaging, or learning more about renewable energy solutions like anaerobic digestion.
Together, we can turn waste into opportunity, conserve resources, and create a cleaner, greener future.
