At Langage Farm, we believe that great taste doesn’t have to be complicated. Our easy mince pies recipe combines simplicity with the traditional flavours of the holiday season. Perfectly flaky pastry filled with a spiced mincemeat filling – these mince pies are a delightful treat for any occasion.

Ingredients:

For the pastry:

  • 250g (2 cups) plain flour
  • 125g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Icing sugar for dusting

For the mincemeat filling:

  • 300g (1 1/4 cups) good quality mincemeat
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 30ml (2 tablespoons) brandy (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cubed butter, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Rub the mixture together with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Add 2-3 tablespoons of cold water to the mixture, a little at a time, and bring the dough together using your hands. Be careful not to overwork the dough. Form it into a ball, wrap it in cling film, and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the mincemeat, orange zest, lemon zest, brandy (if using), cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Set the mincemeat filling aside.
  5. Roll out the chilled pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 3mm thickness. Using a round pastry cutter, cut out circles large enough to line the holes of a 12-hole muffin tin.
  6. Gently press the pastry circles into the muffin tin to form the pie bases.
  7. Spoon a generous teaspoon of mincemeat filling into each pastry base.
  8. Use the remaining pastry to create smaller circles or shapes to place on top of the mincemeat. You can create a full cover or decorative tops with cutouts using festive-shaped pastry cutters.
  9. Brush the tops of the pies with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the pastry turns golden brown.
  11. Once baked, remove the mince pies from the oven and allow them to cool in the tin for a few minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Dust the cooled mince pies with icing sugar before serving….and of course, serve with our award winning Langage Farm Devonshire Clotted Cream.!

These easy mince pies are perfect for sharing with family and friends during the festive season. Enjoy the warm, aromatic flavors and the buttery, flaky pastry that will surely become a holiday favorite!
