4 large apples (e.g., Bramley or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced
2 tbsp butter
50g brown sugar (for caramelising)
50g mixed nuts (e.g., walnuts, pecans), roughly chopped
1 tsp cinnamon
100g plain flour
50g rolled oats
75g butter, chilled and diced
75g caster sugar
Pinch of salt
Langage Farm clotted cream, to serve
Prepare the Apple Filling:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan).
In a pan, melt the butter and add the sliced apples. Cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes until slightly softened.
Sprinkle the brown sugar over the apples and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are nicely caramelised. Remove from heat and set aside.
Caramelise the Nuts:
In a small pan, toast the chopped nuts over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until lightly golden. Be careful not to burn them!
Stir in 1 tsp cinnamon and toss the nuts to coat. Set aside to cool.
Make the Crumble Topping:
In a bowl, combine the flour, oats, caster sugar, and salt.
Add the chilled butter and rub it into the dry ingredients using your fingers until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Assemble the Crumble:
In a baking dish, layer the caramelised apples and top with the caramelised nuts.
Evenly sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apples and nuts.
Bake the Crumble:
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the crumble topping is golden and crisp.
Serve warm with a generous dollop of Langage Farm clotted cream on top for the ultimate indulgence! 😋
