Did you know the stars of the show are our fantastic pedigree Jersey and Guernsey cows.?
Unlike some other dairies, we have our own herd of 250 cows right here on the Langage Farm. We ONLY use the freshest and best, ingredients to make the most delicious ice cream, clotted cream, yogurts and sorbets. All our products are made by hand in our Devonshire creamery, by local people, with a passion for every flavour and every pot. It’s no wonder that year after year, we win lots of awards. We’re so proud of our products, our herd, our farm and our team who know everything there is to know about milk, different flavours and how to ensure the Devon sun shines through in everything we make.
Jersey and Guernsey milk are renowned for their rich, creamy texture, which is due to their high levels of fat, protein, and other nutrients. Both breeds produce milk that is higher in butterfat than other milk varieties, making it particularly suitable for creating creamy dairy products.
Jersey milk is slightly higher in butterfat than Guernsey milk and also contains more protein and calcium. It’s also a good source of omega-3s and other fatty acids, which can help with brain health and cognitive function. Jersey cows are the smallest dairy breed, but they mature quickly and produce a lot of milkfat.
Guernsey milk is also high in fat, but it’s particularly rich in beta-carotene, an essential fatty acid. This gives Guernsey milk its distinctive golden-yellow colour.
Our farming family has been taking care of our special herd since 1948. Set in 280 acres of lush Devon countryside, they chew the cud and spend 22 hours a day outside in the summer grazing our stunning countryside and only coming inside for milking! In the winter or bad weather, they use our purpose-built barns to shelter. Our unusually mild climate in Devon means that the grass is lush and green and makes the most creamy milks!
Thank you to the amazing cows for helping make the best products!
