While we are year after year winners of lots of awards for our retail ranges, some of our most meaningful work happens right here on our doorstep in Plymouth. We are immensely proud to share the story of our special nutrient-dense ice cream, lovingly created and developed in close partnership with Derriford Hospital specifically for their in-patients.
Caring for Our Community
Derriford Hospital is the largest specialist hospital in the South West, serving a massive population across Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall. As a major acute teaching hospital with over a thousand beds and treating hundreds of thousands of patients of all ages every single year, ensuring that patients receive nourishing, high-quality food is vital to their recovery and well-being.
Recognising the unique nutritional challenges faced by some in-patients—particularly those who struggle with appetite or require nutrient-dense options—our team worked hand-in-hand with the hospital to develop something special.
Using the rich, wholesome milk from our happy Jersey and Guernsey cows right here on our working farm, we crafted a specialised ice cream designed to deliver essential calories and goodness in every comforting spoonful. Because it is made by hand by local people in our Devonshire creamery, we could tailor the recipe precisely to meet the clinical and dietary needs of the hospital while maintaining that signature, luxurious taste that Langage Farm is famous for.
Whether it is bringing a moment of joy to an elderly patient or providing a gentle, nutrient-rich boost to someone on the road to recovery, knowing that our ice cream plays a small part in patient care at Derriford Hospital fills us with immense pride.
