Langage Farm Surprises 106-Year-Old with Devon Cream Tea Hamper

Devon, UK – Langage Farm celebrated a heartwarming milestone with 106-year-old Joan Mundy, a lifelong advocate for Devonshire clotted cream, by presenting her with a special Devon Cream Tea hamper to mark her incredible birthday and enduring love for cream teas.

Joan, who recently made headlines in Devon Live, sharing her secrets to a long life, credited Devon clotted cream as a key ingredient in her longevity. She declared, “The secret to life is plenty of clotted cream. But it has to be Devonshire clotted cream!” Her story of wit, sharp mind, and extraordinary zest for life inspired Langage Farm to help her celebrate in true traditional Devon style.

Mark Murrin, Business Development Manager at Langage Farm, personally delivered the hamper to Joan at the Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter. The hamper was filled with Langage Farm’s award-winning traditional Devonshire clotted cream, fresh scones, and contributions from other award winning Devon producers, including Ryders Bakery, Devon Hampers, The Devon Scone Company, and Devonshire Tea.

Mark had the pleasure of spending time with Joan, who shared a treasure trove of stories about her life. One particularly memorable tale involved Joan visiting her local Sainsbury’s in Pinhoe, where she requested to see the store manager. “Why don’t you sell Devon clotted cream?” she asked him, adding with conviction, “I don’t want Cornish!” much to Mark’s amusement.

“We were so moved by Joan’s story in Devon Live and her passion for Devon clotted cream,” said Mark Murrin. “She told me she loved the cream tea for four in the hamper and plans to enjoy it with friends and family. Joan’s incredible spirit and her love for Devon traditions are truly inspiring, and it was an honour to meet her and hear about her remarkable life.”

Joan, a former teacher and lifelong resident of Devon, celebrated her 106th birthday surrounded by family, friends, and the dedicated staff at her care home in Exeter. She remains active and sharp, participating in activities like yoga and delighting everyone with her humour. Joan is also a staunch advocate of the Devon cream tea tradition, saying, “The cream comes first and the jam goes on top – but the Devon cream is the most important thing!”

Mark concluded “Joan embodies everything we love about Devon – warmth, resilience, and a true appreciation for life’s simple joys.”
