Plymouth, Devon — Langage Farm, based in Plymouth, Devon, geared up for their busiest Christmas trading period ever by producing a record staggering 45 tonnes of traditional Devonshire Clotted Cream during December. To put that into perspective, that’s the weight of a humpback whale — enough to top over 2 million mince pies, underlining the scale of production and the ongoing popularity of the farm’s luxurious, award-winning cream during the festive season.
As recently as November, Langage Farm’s luxurious Traditional Devonshire Clotted Cream received the prestigious “Champion Dairy Product” Award for 2024 at The Taste of the West Gala Evening at Westpoint. This is in addition to the widely respected Platinum Award from Food Drink Devon the Traditional Devonshire Clotted Cream received for 2023/24.
Langage Farm has been perfecting its clotted cream since the 1980s, using milk from its own herd of Jersey and Guernsey cows. The family-run farm has built a strong reputation for producing high-quality, local ingredients that have earned a loyal following both in the UK and abroad.
“We’re incredibly proud of the tradition and care that goes into every pot of clotted cream we produce,” said Steve Davies, Head of Sales and Marketing at Langage Farm. “Producing 45 tonnes of clotted cream in December is no small feat, but it’s a sign of how much our products are loved. It’s a real privilege to know our clotted cream plays a key role in so many people’s festive celebrations.”
Langage Farm’s clotted cream stands out due to the quality of its milk. The farm’s herd of 265 Jersey and Guernsey cows are raised on lush Devon pastures, with nearly 22 hours a day spent grazing outdoors during the summer months. This natural, free-range farming approach ensures the milk has a distinctively rich, creamy taste that’s reflected in their clotted cream.
“We place a great deal of emphasis on the welfare of our cows,” explained Steve. “They’re free to graze in natural surroundings, which results in milk with a deep, creamy flavour that we’re known for. It’s this care and attention that makes our clotted cream so special.”
“Clotted cream is an essential part of Christmas for so many people,” Steve continued. “Whether it’s served with mince pies or used to complement other festive desserts, it’s the perfect way to add a little extra indulgence to the season. We are delighted that our lovely clotted cream graced so many Christmas dinner tables and buffets during the festive period.”
What started as a small family business has since grown into a global success, with Langage Farm’s clotted cream now enjoyed in countries as far as Japan and Australia. This international reach highlights the farm’s commitment to maintaining the quality and authenticity of Devon’s dairy products.
